Services for schools

Mallaig Heritage Centre has a large and growing collection, focussed on aspects of local history but which includes media which relevant to numerous other subjects, such as transport and communications, economics, agriculture, science, statistics and geography, all of which can help pupils to make a connection between these subjects and the area they live in. As a community organisation, the Heritage Centre is committed to assisting local schools wherever possible and enabling pupils to benefit from its collection.

At present we can offer the following services to local schools:

  • organised class visits, with worksheets and guided tours/talks where requested and appropriate
  • loan of appropriate objects to schools for study, to accompany classwork
  • material designed to accompany classwork made available via the Internet
  • visits by the Curator to schools to talk about objects from the collection
There is no charge to local schools (postcodes PH36 to PH44 and IV44) for these services.

Individual pupils are of course welcome to visit the Heritage Centre and request help or information at any time when the Heritage Centre is open (current opening hours). Admission for local schoolchildren is free at all times.
