Hello!
Does anyone have information about the family of my ggg grandfather, Archibald McKinnon? He was born circa 1813 in Morar. His father was Alexander son of Donald son of Donald son of John. Around 1835, Archibald married Ann, maiden name unknown. Their children were Alexander, Duncan, Christy and Katie. The family were living in Samadalan in Knoydart. Around 1848, Ann and Duncan died and Archibald married Janet McGillis born in Morar circa 1821. Janet's father was Donald son of William son of Donald son of William. Janet's mother was Peggy McGillis daughter of John McGillis son of Alexander, of Donald, of John, of Donald, of Donald, son of John. Archibald and Janet had sons named Angus and John who are listed in the 1851 Census of Scotland. The family were likely among those who left Knoydart in 1853 and sailed on the Sillery to Canada. They next appear in the 1861 Census of Ontario with their Scottish-born children and several more born in Glengarry, Ontario from 1854 onwards. Does anyone have information relating to the antecedents of Archibald or either of his wives, Ann and Janet? Are their any local Catholic parish records? Thank you,
Carol Annett
