Getting to Mallaig Heritage Centre
Mallaig can be reached by road from Glasgow (135 miles) following the A82 to Fort William (40 miles), then the A830. Journey time from Glasgow 3½ to 4 hours, from Fort William 70 minutes.
From Inverness take the A82 south to Fort William then the A830. Another option is to take the train to Kyle of Lochalsh[PDF], then take a bus from Kyle to Armadale on the island of Skye, from where you can cross back to the mainland at Mallaig.
Ferries between Mallaig and Armadale vary from 8 a day in summer to once or twice a day in winter.
Some maps show ferry links between Mallaig and Kyle of Lochalsh or Mallaig and South Uist. Unfortunately the ferry to Kyle no longer operates at all, while the Mallaig-Lochboisdale link operates only in winter, two days a week.
Mallaig Heritage Centre is on the right just after entering Mallaig from Fort William on the A830, right alongside Mallaig railway station. The nearest carpark is on the sea front to the left immediately after entering Mallaig, 200 metres from the Heritage Centre.
